My Dear Friends,
I know many of you have been waiting to hear an update from me.
I write now to express my heartfelt gratitude for the flood of love from my village these past few days.
I also write to tell you that last week was one of the most incredible of my career. It was absolutely magical seeing the film that Brandon and I had living in our imagination begin to come to life before our eyes on the screen. The experience absolutely confirmed that this is exactly where I need to be and what I need to be doing – Producing and Directing, My Summer as a Goth.
I am so proud of what our incredible family of actors, crew and vendors achieved in just a few short days. When faced with the decision to suspend production or sacrifice production value, scene coverage, and actor performances in order to meet our deadlines, we chose to take a step back so that we could regroup and reevaluate how to complete the film honoring the vision we had originally set forth.
A vision that is committed to telling our uplifting coming of age story about personal discovery and transformation. A vision that includes employing a local cast with a strong Latina lead, diversity in age, race and sexual orientation celebrating differences both behind the scenes and in front of the camera.
The harsh reality of completing our vision however requires that we secure a significantly larger financial base in the earlier phase of production. We did not want to risk being able to make good on our financial commitments, so we halted production, paid everyone and postponed production in order to raise the remaining funds needed.
As Brandon focuses on his first love, writing, my goal is to surround myself with people equally as passionate to this project as we have been. Many of you have been that community invested in helping to bring this story to life.
With only until August 17th to reach our Kickstarter goal of $50,000, I can use every bit of support folks are willing to lend!
Here are some specific ways you can help us reach our goal:
- Consider contributing! If each of my friends on Facebook contributed $50 – the cost of a night out to dinner and a movie for two, we’d be done!
- Share the Kickstarter Campaign with your networks and groups
- Think about the different creative groups you are part of, if there are any organizations or individuals you feel I should reach out to be involved in the making of the film, perhaps you will consider facilitating an introduction?
Again, my heart is so full with the outpouring of love that we have received from all of you, I know that we are on the right path.
